Design of the Day – Re-vamped fine bone china

As you all know, I’m a huge fan of up-cycling, so when I came across Melody Rose’ designs I must say I got very excited! The Canadian born designer, Melanie Roseveare, lives and works in West London,  re-vamping various china with quirky images from humming birds and skulls to 50′s pin-up girls.

My favorite pieces from her collection are the skull tea cups and plates. I just adore how Melanie has fused the eerie skull image with dainty bone china. Her designs are available to buy from www.notonthehighstreet.com or you can go direct to her website for personalised commissions and enjoy the array of rather splendid designs.

Design of the Day – Literally a tea light

After yesterdays mad rush to launch the NDA National Design Award competition, I thought I’d build up todays momentum a little more slowly.

After leisurely scouring the internet for design this morning, I came across this fantastic light on the Liberty website.

Inspired by 1930′s tableware, The Tea Range is a collection of quirky Art-deco tea-cup and teapot shaped lights, a perfect addition to any chic room design, kitchen or café!

Made from bone china and hung from a cotton braid cable, the lights take 4 to 12 weeks to arrive and cost £145, I’ve just placed my order!

How to make your own vintage cake stand

I’ve recently jumped on the crafting band wagon since Linda Barker demonstrated how to make a vintage cake stand at last months Ideal Home Show. I did a little research online and to my surprise found sites charging for instructions on how to make one.

There are two ways you can go about making a vintage stand, one is to drill holes in the plates and connect them with metal rods, the other is (in my opinion more eclectic) to use glasses as the support stands in between the plates.

So I’d like to give you a short and free guide to making your own bespoke vintage cake stand. Continue reading

Mad Potters Tea Party!

Based in  Stoke-on-Trent – the heart of the potteries,  The New English Ceramics are made using over 250 years of traditional skills and techniques.  But this collection isn’t a batch of boring plain white plates and cups, it has twists of gothic art, eccentric prints and stunning hand painted gold detailing. With this lot on your dining table you’re sure to be a show stopper!

The New English Collection was founded in 2009 by Paul Bishop and his wife Judith, it reflects the increasing demand for origional products which represent our contemporary culture and lifestyles. The company launched it’s new range “The Mad Potters Tea Party” in Berlin last month and revealed to the world 118 new pieces. A written description doesnt justify how magnificant these pieces are, you just have to see them.
