Design of the Day

This young designer has stolen my heart with her brightly coloured and patterned eco designs. She gives her designs life, re-modernsises retro and promotes ethical and green living – a ten out of ten from me!

After graduating from Loughborough University in 2008 with a 1st in Textile Design, British designer Zoe Murphy was selected for The New Designers Showcase in Islington, where she was shortlisted for Designer of the Year Award and has since attracted a huge amount of attention.

Interior design duo push business from strength to strength

 

Sharon Kearney had read every curtain making book she could find, but wanted to take her skills to the next level. She enrolled on a Professional Soft Furnishings and Curtain Making diploma course at The National Design Academy, where she teamed up with old friend and fellow student Debbie.

The two decided to take the plunge and set up their own business, Grasshoppers Interiors. Two years on, the business is flying and team Grasshopper is still going strong. Put your feet up and enjoy Sharon and Debbie’s story of success.

Young Interior Designer sets business flying

Emma Shaw graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2001 with a degree in Industrial Management. Even though she had a keen interest in soft furnishings from a young age, she didn’t expect to follow this path because of her chosen educational route. But when Emma bought her first house, she decided to make all her own furnishings and this reignited the interior design bug she’d always had.

Wanting to develop her skills and flex her creative fingertips,¬† Emma enrolled on a soft furnishings Diploma course and has never looked back since. She’s now the proud owner of a soft furnishings business which is thriving and experiencing high demand. Interior Designer Karen lane loves restoring old and unused furniture, she often looks for second-hand goods to “up-cycle”. With times of austerity upon us, “up-cycling” is becoming the hottest new way of re-decorating without the huge price tag.

Karen gives us some examples of pieces she’s restored and how she went about doing it! An interview with Interior Designer and business woman Penny Bruce

Penny Bruce studied a Curtain and Soft furnishing  Diploma course with The National Design Academy, and is now the Director of her own and very successful soft furnishings business, Denton Drapes. All furnishings are made from high quality fabrics and hand-sewn by a team of skilled workers, who use traditional craft skills based in a Bedfordshire workroom.
