“Design it yourself” is now easier than ever with the revolutionary ipad app that is iro. This clever little program helps people to find that perfect colour scheme.
“Iro” means colour in Japanese and the app stays true to the fundamental rules of colour but allows you to experience an infinite number of creative possibilities.
The coolest thing about iro is that you can import a picture into your iPad and use the colours from your memories to create a colour scheme!
A huge hello to my fellow readers! I hope you all had a fab bank holiday weekend and made the most of it, I certainly did!
Today’s post is rather special and will definitely make you go “oooooooooo”. Ever heard of 3D mapping? Well it’s something which is widely used in parts of Asia and is becoming very popular in the west, giving a whole new meaning to advertising with maximum effect. It’s basically like watching a 3D movie projected on the front of a building for the people who like it in simple terms.
A friend told me about this brilliant example of 3D mapping and it was just too impressive not to share with you all. To promote the launch of the 2010 adventure film “The Tourist“, starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, a team of techi geniuses created a mind-boggling 3D video with super cool effects, that was 80′ x 80′ in size and projected on to the front of The Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas.
Take a look for yourself and be amazed with how fast technology is developing and constantly pushing the boundaries of design!

This baby nearly made me jump out of my skin when I walked past it in a shop the other day. I thought it was just a weird looking light or stand, but as I brushed passed a huge gust of wind hit my face, “it’s a fan!” I screamed. Yes, Dyson have done it again and surprised us with another technological masterpiece and created a bladeless fan.
As the Dyson new age fan uses Air multiplier technology which means the blades dont chop the air before it hits you, the breeze is smoother and I can tell you a lot more powerful! The fans come in a range of sizes, colours and shapes so you can have one to suit your desk, bedroom or a board room if you’re fancy. They range from £200 – £300 and come with a 2 year guarantee, some stores don’t stock the whole range so I’d check before heading down to your local.
Today’s Gadget Show at Birminghams NEC was fabulous! The exhibition stands towered over my head and the displays were immense! If you’re into exhibition, gallery, visual merchandising, or event design this show is a MUST!! I’m going to give you all the goodies tomorrow so watch this space folks! Oh I nearly forgot, check out our twitter page @the_design_hub for pictures and updates of the days events! See you bright and early!
If you want the ultimate clubbing experience, dance bar D-Edge in Sao Paolo, Brazil has had a lighting system installed that changes colour and redesigns itself to the beat of the music. It’s not just a simple set of lights in the ceiling , the whole building was designed to let clubbers visually see sound and enhance their experience.
The original club was the first in Brazil to integrate sound and light systems using LEDs and custom software, it was named state-of-the-art when it first opening in 2003. The owner bought the building next door and commissioned Brazilian lighting installation master Muti Raldolp to work his magic on all four floors.
The dance floor is made from wood stripes embedded with LEDs and a 3D circuitry system displays live animations which connect the ceiling, bar, a wall and DJ booth. On another wall, a huge mirror reflects light while actually doubling as a cover for a massive 20 m high window behind it. The mirror is embedded with LED light boxes that emit light to the inside and outside – wow! It reminds me of the Black Eyed Peas video “Boom Boom Boom”, with Will.I.Am showing off his funky dancing in the middle of a computer generated cube.
This futuristic music box includes a dance floor, smoking area, restrooms, a second entrance, accessibility lift and a terrace – get me a flight I’m there!
